As some of you may know, Emily Neal and I have been cooking up schemes for the last several years to promote, reinvigorate, and ignite creativity in our own and others’ lives. We believe that creativity is the wellspring of a happy, productive life; we mourn the loss of creativity in our culture.
In this vein, one of the ideas we have settled on to actively nurture creativity involves gathering together a group of creative types to learn more about how to turn up the volume on our muses, spur creativity in one another, and provide space for creating and collaborating together or working individually on a creative exercise or project.
Here’s the plan:
Convene once a month at a regular time (say, 3nd Saturday afternoons of the month) for creative time together; Rotate “hosting” (hosting means providing a space to meet and a hands-on creative endeavor for us to do during our time together) Share creative inspirations, reading, stories, reflections, etc.; Bring quality snacks and beverages, all store bought (to avoid Susie Homemaker competitions) to sustain our creative endeavors.
I’ll host the first gathering on Saturday, January 19h, at home (6214 Abington Way, Houston) from 2-5 p.m. Emily is building a house at the moment, so she will be preoccupied. But I want to get this group started. So....
Please let me know if you plan to attend, so I can round up enough chairs and supplies. Bring snacks and beverages and inspiration or ideas for how to keep this initiative going. You may want to check out my blog on “12 Wishes for a Creative New Year” for a better sense of where this impulse is coming from. Feel free to bring a creative friend. Whether you can attend the first gathering or not, if you are interested in participating, please complete the document at __this link__ to a shared Google Doc so that we can keep in touch about further developments. An online version of this gathering may be in the works as well, as you may note from the comments on on my blog post above.
